Roef! celebrates the triumph in the Cup Winners Cup B, Austria moves up to the Cup Winners Cup A

Dutch Roef! took home the gold in the Final of the Women's Softball Cup Winners Cup B, topping the Crazy Chicklets from Austria with 7-0 in 6 innings. Marjolein Merkx (ROE) pitched and won against the Austrian team on Wednesday evening and got the ball again from her coaches. McKenna Leamon got the start for the Chicklets.

Roef scored the first 2 runs of the game in the second inning when Kate Geldof sent the ball into deep right-center for a triple scoring Onaisha Franka and Eva Versloot. 

In the bottom of the fourth, 3 more runs were added. This time Isa Los hit a triple into left-center scoring Nicky Uytendaal and Briana Marcelino. In that same inning, Jessica Goldyn also scored on an RBI of Bente Zwanenburg.

The Crazy Chicklets knocked on the door a couple times but were held by an outstanding pitcher and defense on Roef’s side. A diving catch from Onaisha Franka, a 9-to-3 outfield assist by Kate Geldof (ROE), and the sliding stop from Briana Marcelino (ROE) at shortstop were some of the defensive gems on display. 

In the sixth inning, it was once again Isa Los (ROE) who shined offensively. With 5-0 on the scoreboard and Nicky Uytendaal and Briana Marcelino on base, she hit a double into left field resulting in a 7-0 walk-off victory for Roef! 

Roef! wins the gold medal in this edition of the Women’s Softball European Cup Winners Cup, The Crazy Chicklets from Austria took home the silver medal. 

As Roef! is Netherlands, which already has a spot in the Women's Softball European Cup Winners Cup A, the Crazy Chicklets's silver medal earned Austria a spot in the higher pool in 2024.

Earlier in the evening the Zurich Challengers from Switzerland won the Bronze medal by securing an 8-0 victory over the Thunderbirds from Israel. Sofia Gregnanin (ZUR) was the offensive standout in this game. She went 3-3 and scored 3 runs for the Challengers. Taylor Ann Edwards (ZUR) got the win by pitching 5 innings giving up 6 hits, 3 walks, and threw 5 strikeouts. 

Medvednica Mrki Medvedi were the surprise in the placement round games that took place in the morning by winning their first 2 games of the week. 

They started with a 9-2 victory over Titans (BOT) and continued their winning by beating the Barbarians (GBR) 12-2 in the second game of the day. With these two victories, they claimed the fifth spot in the final ranking.

In the last game of the placement round Titans (BOT) won 7-0 over the Barbarians (GBR).
