Team Italy knocked out 14 runs off of 17 hits, as the Canadians were only able push across 4 runs in a mercy rule loss in game 3 of pool D. The Italians move to 2 and 0 in the tournament, which dramatically help their chances in moving onto the second round in this 2013 edition of the World Baseball Classic.

Phoenix/San Juan/Tokyo. After the first round of the 2013 World Baseball Classic got finished in Pools A and B on Wednesday, the preliminary phase gets underway in Phoenix and San Juan. Italy shocked Mexico with a late rally to deliver the first big surprise of the tournament. In the second matchup on Thursday the Dominican Republic slugged their way past Venezuela.

The IBAF Umpiring Commisision will hold an Umpire Camp in Barcelona, Spain. The Camp will open on July 10 and close on July 14, 2013.

Fukuoka/San Juan/Phoenix. Cuba defeated Japan on Wednesday to conclude the first round Pool A in Fukuoka as the number-one seed. Both teams will advance to the second round joined by Chinese Taipei and the Netherlands from Pool B. Games at the Tokyo Dome start on Friday.

Chinese Tapei and IBAF 2011 Baseball World Cup winner the Netherlands are joining Cuba and Japan in the second round of the 2013 World Baseball Classic at the Tokyo Dome (March 8 to 12) in Tokyo, Japan. The Dutch team beat Australia in the afternoon game at Intercontinental Stadium in Taichung on Tuesday to finish the first round in second place. Chinese Taipei lost to Korea, but still was ranked first in Pool B due to the tiebreaker. In Pool A China celebrated a late comeback to get its first win in the tournament.

Dome in Fukuoka saw no surprise on Sunday, as Cuba entered the tournament with a win over Brazil and Japan downed China for its second victory. At Intercontinental Stadium in Taichung, Chinese Taipei won the battle of undefeated teams in Pool B against the Netherlands to earn their second win.

Taichung. In the battle of undefeated teams, Chinese Taipei banged up the Netherlands 8-3 in Day 2 action of WBC Pool B in Taichung City.
