Nineteen thousand euros received by a Croatian softball club through the European Solidarity Corps

Princ Softball Club, a Croatian softball club based in Zagreb, received over €19.000 from the European Solidarity Corps for "Volunteering for Sport Vol.2" a project involving young people in sports and promoting solidarity through sports.

The WBSC Europe Funding Sub Commission presents "Volunteering for Sport Vol.2", a project funded by the European Solidarity Corps, through an interview with Ema Vrančić and Petra Čizmić Pokrajac, the project coordinators.

1) What is "Volunteering for Sport Vol.2"
This project was designed to involve young people in sports and promote solidarity through sports while including young people with fewer opportunities. The goal of the project was to make an environment for youth to feel included while encouraging volunteer work and raising awareness of the benefits of sports and physical activity, but also how sport-acquired skills can have an important reflection on the everyday life of young individuals.

For one year, we had two young volunteers from two different countries, helping our organisation grow, while getting the opportunity to gather new experiences, acquire new skills, learn new languages and meet new people.

2) How long did it take for you to create the project?
It took a little more than a month to write a project and about 3 months to prepare everything for the volunteers and the implementation of the project.

3) How much did you receive?
The project was funded by European Solidarity Corps. We received €19.255.

We applied in October 2020 and got approval in December 2020. The funds were sent to us at the beginning of the activity, in February.

4) Was the process demanding?
The process of writing the project was not so difficult. We took our time and had some help and guidance from our National Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes. The process before the arrival of our volunteers was challenging since we had to make sure they had everything they needed to live in a foreign country for one year.
