Three of the five scheduled days in the preliminary round at the U-18 European Baseball Championship in the Czech Republic are played. On Monday the Netherlands and Spain from Group A in Hluboka and Germany and host Czechia from Group B in Ostrava improved to 3-0 and remained undefeated as the race for the semi-finals is heating up.

Germany – Belgium 10-7 (Box score)

Germany improved to 3-0 in the U-18 European Baseball Championship with a 10-7 victory over still-winless Belgium. It was a hard fought contest on Monday morning in Ostrava in Group B. The lead changed several times until Germany tied the game with a bases loaded walk in the fifth and then used three RBI doubles to secure the victory in the sixth. Bjarne Reinhardt had three RBI for Germany. Ken Spurgeon Mizunoya went 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI for Belgium.

France – Lithuania 10-0 (Box score)

France captured a 10-0 shutout win over Lithuania in the morning game in Hluboka in Group A on Monday. Six runs combined in the second and third decided the outcome early. Four more runs in the fifth and sixth led to an early ending due to ten-run rule. However especially the French pitching staff dominated the game, as Nathan Laot, Ben Couvreur and Robin Lavec kept Lithuania hitless through six innings along with two walks and eight strikeouts total. Tanguy Meurant had two triples and collected three runs and three RBI on offense for France.

Netherlands – Austria 12-2 (Box score)

The Netherlands continues their winning ways on Monday in Hluboka with a 12-2 victory over Austria to pick up their third win in as many games. Five runs in the first two innings and seven alone in the fourth blew the score wide open. Kendrey Maduro homered as part of a 3-for-4 game with three runs and two RBI. Justin Dambruck drove in three for the Dutch. Eoghan Mc Garry had two RBI for Austria. Allard Helms went the distance to pick up the win on the mound.

Italy – Israel 9-0 (Box score)

Italy rebounded from their loss to Czechia on Sunday with a 9-0 win over Israel in Group B in the afternoon game in Ostrava on Monday. Five runs in the second gave them an early lead. Pitchers Davide Montanari, Diego Gergolet and Filippo Venditti combined to allow just three hits and four base on balls in seven scoreless innings. Manuel Zazza tripled and went 3-or-3 with two runs and two RBI. Aviad Schechter reached base three times for Israel.

Spain – Great Britain 6-3 (Box score)

Spain celebrated their third win in three days with a 6-3 victory over Great Britain in the evening matchup in Group A in Hluboka on Monday. Spain took a quick 2-0 lead in the third, but the British squad rallied to get in front 3-2 midway through the fifth. With a pair of two-run frames Spain however came back and secured the victory. Luis Badenas and Samuel Bermudez Ruano scored twice for Spain. Al Banerjee had two RBI for Great Britain.

Czech Republic – Ireland 18-2 (Box score)

Czechia stormed to a lopsided 18-2 win in the evening game on Monday in Group A in Ostrava. Seven runs in the first and eleven in the third frame blew the score wide open. Ireland only managed to avoid the shutout with two runs in the fourth. Michal Sindelka hit a three-run home run and drove in four runs overall. Simon Klacl collected two doubles, two runs and three RBI. Seven Czech players scored multiple runs in the game. Liam Marcus and Ryan Mallon crossed the plate for Ireland.
