Tenerife Marlins win Baseball European Cup 2024 in Valencia, Spain

The Tenerife Marlins won the Baseball European Cup 2024, which was organized in Valencia, Spain with a dominating 11-1 victory over Olimpija Karlovac in the championship game on Sunday.

Tenerife took a quick 1-0 lead in the first and after Olimpija tied the contest in the third, regained the advantage right back in the bottom half of the frame. With six runs in the fourth the Marlins blew the score wide open.

Ricardo Mendoza homered for Tenerife. Joel Borges went 3-for-3 with a walk and four RBI. Leomartires Rodriguez, Yancarlo Franco and Edison Valerio each scored twice for the Marlins. Kruno Gojkovic accounted for the lone Karlovac run with a solo home run. Elio Silva earned the win, while Carlos Garcia Troncoso took the loss.

The Tenerife Marlins (ESP) and Olimpija Karlovac (CRO) reached the finals after finishing first and second in Pool B in the preliminary round with 3-0 and 2-1 records. In Pool A the hosting Astros Valencia (ESP) came out in first, while the Montpellier Barracudas (FRA) finished runner-up. In the semifinals the Marlins cruised by Montpellier 17-1, while Olimpija downed the Astros 11-6.

In the relegation round the Vienna Metrostars (AUT) defeated the Montigny Cougars (FRA) 14-3, while the Deurne Spartans (BEL) beat the Diving Ducks (AUT) 6-5 in eleven innings. Therefore Austria and France will lose a spot in next year’s Baseball European Cup.
