Hoboken Pioneers win Baseball European Federation Cup 2024 in Zurich

The Hoboken Pioneers shut out the Rättvik Butchers 5-0 in the final of the Baseball European Federation Cup 2024 in Zurich, Switzerland to claim a spot for Belgium in next year’s Baseball European Cup.

The Hoboken Pioneers (BEL) not only dominated the final with a 5-0 shutout over the Rättvik Butcher (SWE), but also the preliminary phase with four wins out of four games.

In the final Hoboken took a quick 3-0 lead through two innings on a pair of RBI singles from Dennis De Quint and Rob Lewis, as well as a run by Vegas Tiliakos after an error.

Meanwhile on the mound, Ben van Nuffel and Kevin Desmedt struck out a combined eight batters, while allowing just four hits and two walks in nine scoreless innings. The Pioneers also added some insurance at the end, as De Quint and Benjamin Goffaux came through with RBI singles in the seventh and eighth.

While Hoboken and Rättvik finished in first and second place in the final standings, the Mariners (IRE), host Zurich Barracudas (SUI) and London Mets (GBR) came in third, fourth and fifth.
