France shuts out Sweden 13-0 to pick up 7th place in the Baseball European Championship

France shut out Sweden 13-0 in the afternoon game at YD Stadium in Brno, home of Draci Brno, on Saturday to clinch seventh place in the final standings of the Baseball European Championship 2023.

Both teams had qualified for the quarterfinals this time after being in the relegation round in 2021 and then had to bow out in the quarters on Thursday. On Friday they had missed out on the path to the game for fifth place with losses to Czechia and Israel.

France started strong and got a quick 5-0 lead in the first three innings. After two scoreless frames they added eight more against a tired Swedish squad to end the game early due to ten-run rule after seven innings.

Felix Brown scored three runs for France. Ernesto Martinez went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. Nolan Soliveres and Miguel Lopez also scored twice. Jeff Pruit had two hits for Sweden, Oskar Jerfsten the third.

Ben Couvreur allowed just one hit and five base on balls in 4 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out four. Nathan Laot picked up the win. Moisses Pargas issued seven hits, five runs and four walks in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss.
