Expanding "Girls at Bat" to Sweden: Developing Youth Women's Softball in Denmark and Sweden

The Danish initiative "Girls at Bat" has been expanded into Sweden. This program, developed by the Danish Softball Federation, aims to promote softball among girls aged 10-13.

Following its success in Denmark, the Swedish Baseball Softball & Lacrosse Federation is now adopting "Girls at Bat".

"Girls at Bat" in Sweden will consist of at least six activities throughout the year including events to engage potential new players and promote activities. The program's primary goal is to increase girls' participation in softball.

In addition to increasing participation, "Girls at Bat" also seeks to empower female coaches and attract girls to sports in general. The program emphasizes creating a positive environment and fostering friendships among participants, ensuring that girls have a rewarding experience while engaging in sports and softball-related activities.

The program's core principles include prioritizing fun, encouraging positive recognition through gestures like high fives, and creating visually appealing event setups. It will continuously evolve, aiming to surpass previous successes with each iteration.

To support coach development, the program advocates for compensated coaching positions and encourages coaches to pursue further education and training. The program remains non-profit, with participant fees allocated towards event expenses such as food, while local federations are encouraged to contribute to coach remuneration.
