Netherlands score early in victory over Israel to reach Semifinals

The Netherlands cruised past Israel 12-2 in the quarterfinal on Thursday evening in Blansko at the Baseball European Championship 2023. The Dutch team scored six runs in the first to decide the outcome early and didn’t allow any comebacks from Israel. The defending champion now will take on Spain in the semifinal on Friday.

The offense of the Netherlands started rolling right away in the quarterfinal against Israel. After loading the bases with three consecutive walks, Juremi Profar came through with a two-run single and Sicnarf Loopstock made it 4-0 with a two-run triple before the first out was recorded. They added two more runs in the frame to have a comfortable lead from the start.

Afterwards the game calmed down a little bit, but the Dutch team continued to score. Delano Selassa added three more RBI, while Ray-Patrick Didder had two. In between Israel scored twice on Ryan Lavarnway’s plate appearances – the second on a RBI double along the left field line. Lars Huijer pitched six solid innings, allowing eight hits, two runs and no walks, while striking out five to earn the win. Alex Katz got charged with the loss.
