EuroBaseball 2023: quarter finals preview

The results of the main groups gave interesting quarterfinal pairs. The top 8 teams from the initial round-robin qualified for the quarterfinals, and are ready to play the do-or-die games of the a single-elimination bracket stage.

The EuroBaseball quarterfinals games for the medals will be played in Brno at MBS (YD Arena) and Blansko.

The winner of Group A, Spain, will face the big surprise of the tournament, Sweden at 12:00 in Brno (MBS). Spain is 21st in the WBSC rankings, Sweden is 33rd. At the 2021 Baseball European Championship, Spain finished 4th, Sweden was 12th.

In Blansko at Strawberry Field from 12:00 p.m., Germany, winner of Group D, will play France. Germany finished ninth at the 2021 European Championship, while France had to qualify for Eurobaseball this year.

In the first match of the evening, the Netherlands will lock horns with Israel. The 2021 European Championship finalists will play in Blansko at 18:30.

Among the eight teams there is no longer the bronze medal team from the last European Championship, Italy, which after two defeats (Sweden, Great Britain) will have to fight in the group for 9th-16th place. It is therefore already clear that two of the three medallists from EuroBaseball 2021 will be left without a medal this year, and the path to the metals opens up for other national teams.

Then in Brno, at 18:30 the home team Czechia will play Great Britain. Great Britain advanced as Group B winners and are coming off a narrow win over Italy.

Czechia and Great Britain faced each other at the 2021 Baseball European Championship in a battle for 5th place. Back then, the Czechs topped GB, 5-8.
