Baseball5 debuts at Youth Olympic Festival in Albena, Bulgaria

The future sports stars of Bulgaria gathered at the XIV Olympic Festival of Bulgarian Olympic Committee in the Black sea resort of Albena.

Traditionally, the BOC festival is under the motto “Discovering the Olympic hopes of Bulgaria”. The aim of the festival is to contribute to the promotion of the basic ideals, principles and values of Olympism and their dissemination among the young generation, as well as to enable the expression of young sports talents.

Over 480 participants took part in the XIV edition of the Festival, competing in 8 sports (wrestling, volleyball, swimming, track and field, table tennis, basketball, badminton and beach volleyball).

All the competitions were played on the sports fields and playgrounds of  Albena holder of the award "European Sports Resort" by the Association of European Cities and Capitals of Sport (ACES Europa). 

Immediately after the opening ceremony (march of  the athletes), at the same playgrounds, Baseball5 made its debut at the Olympic Festival with demonstration game of U18 Team Bulgaria.

With the guidance of the President of the Bulgarian Federation Youri Alkalay, the participants in the festival received their first lessons and made first steps in the street version of the sport, so popular all over the world, which returns to the Olympic program in Tokyo next month. 

Ten athletes from Team Bulgaria present a 5 innings show, followed by trials. More than 100 young competitors from other sports join the open Baseball5 games.

The attractive demonstrations of the Baseball5 were applauded not only by the participants, but by the many holidaymakers, who watched with interest the performance of the new game.

BBSF and BOC signed protocol to include Baseball5 as a regular sport in the Festival starting 2022 with format of minimum 4, maximum 6 teams, two days round robin competition, with final game.
