Apollo Bratislava (SVK) has won the Men’s Baseball Federation Cup Qualifier, which was held in Belgrade, Serbia this past week. In the final on Sunday against Vojvodina (SRB) one run in the tenth inning made the difference to lift Apollo to the victory. By winning the Federation Cup Qualifier Bratislava claimed a spot in next year’s Federation Cup for the Slovakian Baseball and Softball Federation.

Apollo and Vojvodina had reached the final with 2-1 records in the preliminary round robin with their group match being cancelled due to bad weather. The Barons Wroclaw (POL) and Budapest Red Wolves (HUN) finished at 2-2, coming in at third and fourth. Kaunas County Baseball (LTU) finished in fifth place in the final standings.

The final game between Vojvodina and Apollo was deadlocked at 0-0 after nine thrilling innings of a pitcher’s duel between Adam Zacko (Apollo) and Anderson Vera (Vojvodina). In the tenth with the tie-breaking runners on first and second to start the frame, Vojvodina failed to plate a run in the top of the inning. In the bottom half Bratislava didn’t waste any time to secure the win. A bunt moved the runners to second and third. Alexander Vaclavik followed to come through with a walk-off RBI single through the middle to end the game.
