The Baseball European Champions Cup saw an exhibition game of G-Honkbal, an adapted form of baseball and softball specifically designed for individuals with mental disabilities.

The G-Honkbal exhibition game took place at the renowned Amsterdam Pirates ballpark, providing a platform for athletes to demonstrate that a baseball league for people with mental disabilities is feasible.

The exhibition game featured two local G-Honkbal teams: the Amsterdam North Stars and the Portland Poema's.

The Baseball European Champions Cup Local Organising Committee organized the G-Honkbal exhibition game as part of the prestigious tournament. By showcasing G-Honkbal alongside traditional baseball, the committee provided a platform to raise awareness about the sport and its potential to empower individuals with mental disabilities.

The Amsterdam North Stars Coach Jos Peeters expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to showcase G-Honkbal on a grand stage. The friendly game between North Stars and the Portland Poema's aimed to inspire others and encourage the establishment of similar leagues all over Europe.

G-Honkbal originated in the Netherlands in 2009. The game incorporates modified rules and equipment to ensure that all participants may enjoy the sport. One of the key adaptations in G-Honkbal is the use of a larger, soft, yellow softball, which enhances safety.

During an inning in G-Honkbal, both teams progress through their entire lineup, ensuring that every athlete has an equal opportunity to participate.

Unlike traditional baseball or softball, where strikeouts are possible, G-Honkbal eliminates this possibility, ensuring that players can fully experience the joy of hitting the ball.

More info about the discipline of G-Honkbal are available on the Dutch Baseball and Softball Federation (Koninklijke Nederlandse Baseball en Softball Bond - KNBSB) website.
