Northern European National Federations meet to establish a steady collaboration and uncover opportunities

Representatives from the Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish baseball and softball National Federations met in Stockholm, Sweden, at the beginning of January. The goal of the meeting was to find more ways to collaborate even closer and grow our sports in Nordic countries.

An official collaboration started on January 7 and 8, 2023, between delegates from the Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish baseball and softball National Federations.

Mette Nissen Jakobsen (DEN), Marko Kärkkäinen (FIN), Ville Herman Haarman (FIN), Björn Christian Throde (NOR), Kristian Pälvia (SWE), and Sanna Hermanson (SWE) met in Stockholm, Sweden, at the "WBSC Europe Nordic Meeting".

Mette Nissen Jakobsen, First Vice President of the Danish Softball Federation commented: "we have always had good connections between the Nordic countries and we share the same values. Establishing a formal Nordic counsel will help us consolidate our cooperation and build longer ranging Nordic development projects together."

The goal for the Nordic National Federations is to consolidate the collaboration on specific topics: international leagues, development, sponsorships, and funds.

Several tournaments will be played during the upcoming season thanks to the creation of Nordic Championships in youth and senior categories both for baseball and softball.

Projects concerning the development of players, officials, and coaches will be carried on by the newly-established group.
Another intent is to cooperate to find funds and sponsors.

Over 50 clubs are active in the Northern European National Federations counting over three thousand athletes.
