Zurich Barracudas win Federation Cup Qualifier in Sofia

The Zurich Barracudas (SUI) have won the Men’s Baseball Federation Cup Qualifier, which was held this week in Sofia, Bulgaria. In the final on Sunday the Barracudas defeated the London Capitals (GBR) by a score of 6-2. With the victory Zurich earned a spot for the Swiss Baseball and Softball Federation in next year’s Federation Cup.

London and Zurich together with BK Zagreb (CRO) was locked into a three-way tie with three wins and one loss apiece after the preliminary round robin at the Federation Cup Qualifier in Sofia. London came out in first place with Zurich in second to reach the final. Zagreb, the Akademiks Sofia (BUL) and Mariners Baseball (IRE) finished in third, fourth and fifth in the final standings.

In the final the Barracudas had the better start into the game, taking a quick 5-0 lead after three innings. While London got on the board with two runs in the fifth, Zurich added another run in the eighth and sealed the win. The Barracudas were led by Tyler Joseph Williams, who went the distance, allowing just two runs (1 ER) on seven hits and three base on balls, while striking out ten. On offense Andrew Wong belted two home runs alongside a three-hit game with three runs and five RBI overall.
