The induction ceremony of Rebecca Soumeru to the WBSC Europe Hall of Fame was made even more special by the presence of her teammates, who had just secured the bronze medal at the Championship.
In her heartfelt speech, Soumeru expressed deep gratitude to all those who made her remarkable career possible, especially her teammates. Reflecting on her journey, she thanked everyone who supported her through her years as a key figure in European softball, particularly acknowledging the friendships and bonds she formed on and off the field.
Rebecca Soumeru's softball career is nothing short of extraordinary. She began playing for the Dutch national team in 2001, becoming a role model and a friend to countless players not only in the Netherlands but across Europe. Known for her humility, determination, and sportsmanship, she has inspired generations of athletes. Her consistent performances, support for her teammates, and respect for umpires and officials have earned her a well-deserved reputation as one of the game's greats.
Soumeru's impressive career highlights include representing the Netherlands at the 2008 Olympic Games, competing in 11 European Championships, and earning 5 European Championship titles. With 146 official international games under her belt, she was a pillar of the Dutch National Team from 2001 to 2022. She also played for Sparks Haarlem since 2001, with a brief stint at Macerata in 2006.
Her international achievements include participating in three Olympic qualifiers, five World Championships, and numerous prestigious tournaments, such as the Canada Cup, Japan Cup, and Venezuela International Series.
