Saskia Kosterink to Lead The Netherlands Women's Fastpitch Softball

Saskia Kosterink will become the new national coach of The Netherlands Women's Fastpitch Softball. Expressing her excitement and pride, Kosterink stated, "Extremely exciting, a fantastic challenge, proud and honoured."

Following the world championships in Castions di Strada, Italy, Saskia Kosterink will take over from Ferenc Jongejan as the national coach.

Reflecting on her new role, she remarked, “The involvement is already somewhat greater in the run-up than it normally is. After a week of rest, we have three weeks in August - there is an interruption for the European Cup for Clubs - to prepare for the European Championship in our own country. The short period and the pressure surrounding the European Cup mean that I am aware of making our joint start as calm as possible.”

Looking ahead, she emphasized the importance of focusing on the early preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Saskia Kosterink's outstanding career includes playing for the Kingdom team 151 times, participating in six European Championships, four world championships, and the 2008 Olympic Games. Kosterink also had an international career spanning ten years, playing in Italy and Australia.

She initially retired in 2015 but returned in 2017 to take on various coaching positions within the KNBSB training center for National Teams and Talent Development.

The Women's Softball European Championship will be held in the Netherlands from September 1 to 7, 2024. The Dutch team, as the defending champions and hosts, will aim to defend their title on home soil.

The Local Organising Committee has previously announced that tickets for the 2024 event are available for purchase.
