Pitching & Catching Clinic in Germany

With the support of the ESF Development program, the German Baseball and Softball Federation held a pitching and catching clinic in Dortmund in February this year. Stanislav Štýs from the Czech Republic (Pitching) and Wolfgang Walther from Germany (Catching) were the responsible coaches for the total of 18 players. The core of Germany's men's national team used the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming European Championship in June and were joined by other highly motivated men and women from all over Germany.

Starting from basic technical knowledge with an insight in the biomechanical sequence of the movement, over ways of communication, up to detailed individual video analysis, the two days were packed with a wide variety of subjects. Jana Rogge, one of the five women at the clinic, underlines: “The theoretical input helped me a lot to get a deeper understanding of how the movement should feel and look like.” And Marc Dütjer, who took part as a pitcher, adds: “The video analysis helped to get a quick feedback and to really see individual problems”.

Not only the participants but also the coaches were satisfied with the outcome of the weekend. Walther, who is also the Head Coach of the German Team summarizes: “We are extremely happy and thankful for the support by the ESF. Once again we had the opportunity to further develop the level of pitching in Germany - which is essential for the development of Men's Fastpitch here."
