Historical step for WBSC Europe: new Statutes approved

On November 19, 2021, the new WBSC Europe Constitution was approved in Roma, Italy, paving the way for the future of European Baseball, Softball, and Baseball5. European Baseball & Softball leaders were in Roma, Italia, for the WBSC Europe, CEB, and ESF Congresses on November 19 and 20, 2021.

Organized by the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation and hosted by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and its President and IOC Member Giovanni Malagò, the Congress was the first gathering of the European Baseball and Softball community since the Covid pandemic broke in 2020.

After only one European event could be played in 2020 - the first Baseball5 European Championship - 2021 marked a restart of international activities as most of the events on the calendar could be played, showing the spirit of resilience of the European Baseball and Softball community and its ability to organize events under Covid conditions.

The 2021 Congress represents a major step in the process of merger between Baseball Europe and Softball Europe, a new version of the WBSC Europe Constitution having been approved which definitively paves the way for a unique Baseball and Softball Continental body starting from 2022.

WBSC co-Presidents Gabriel Waage and Didier Seminet emphasized the work that has been done over the last years to bring Baseball and Softball together and align everything to be able to open a new chapter of the history of European Baseball and Softball.

WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari, who attended the Extraordinary Congresses, stated: "This is the right time to take this step, also in terms of promotion, communication, and marketing for our sport."

Next year's WBSC Europe Congress, where elections will be held, will take place in Slovenia from February 10 to 11, 2022.
