Host Germany stays alive at World Baseball Classic Qualifier

Host Germany beat South Africa 11-5 on Monday afternoon to stay alive at the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Regensburg. They will now face Czechia on Tuesday afternoon at 1pm in an elimination game. On Tuesday at 7pm meanwhile the undefeated teams from Great Britain and Spain will square off with the winner qualifying for the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

Germany – South Africa 11-5 (Box score)

Germany used a seven-run rally and two home runs by Demetrius Moorer to beat South Africa 11-5 on Monday afternoon. With the win Germany stays alive, while South Africa got eliminated. Seven runs in the sixth broke a 2-2 tie and decided the outcome. Billy Germaine hit a solo home run to give Germany the lead. Demetrius Moorer followed with two home runs for five RBI to blow the score open. Aaron Altherr also went deep for Germany. Nick Wittgren earned the win in relief.
