Guggenberger Legionaere Regensburg – VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe 11-1 (Box score)
In an
intense game between the two German Baseball-Bundesliga rivals the Guggenberger
Legionaere prevailed over the VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe 11-1. Regensburg
took the lead with a three-run second inning and then blew up the score with eight
combined runs between the fifth and seventh inning.
Marlon Jimenez
and Antonios Torres went deep for the Guggenberger Legionaere. Elias von Garssen
scored twice and drove in two for the hosts. Jimenez, Edoardo Cornelli and
Daniel Patrice also crossed the plate two times. Matt Vance went 3-for-5 with
three RBI. Shawn Larry, who had a triple, scored the lone run for the VOITH
Heidenheim Heidekoepfe after a RBI single by William Germaine in the top of the
seventh.
Regensburg’s
starting pitcher Kieran Lovegrove issued one hit and two walks in two-plus
innings. Aljo Sujak relieved him and picked up the win. Heidenheim’s Drew
Janssen racked up ten strikeouts in five innings, but also conceded six hits,
four runs and a base on balls to take the loss.
The Guggenberger Legionaere Regensburg conclude the first round in first place with a 5-1 record, followed by Draci Brno at 4-2 and the VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe at 3-3. The Eagles Praha finish in fourth place with an 0-6 record.
The Baseball European Champions Cup is first being played in a league format with the regular season taking place with six mid-week game days from May to August. The final will be played in Regensburg, home of the first-place team, on September 28 at 15:00.
