Great Britain wins U18 European Baseball Championship Qualifier in Sundbyberg

Great Britain has won the U18 European Baseball Championship Qualifier, which was held this week in Sundbyberg, Sweden. In the final on Saturday the British Juniors topped host Sweden 5-1. With the victory Great Britain qualified for the U18 European Baseball Championship, which will take place in the Czech Republic in August 2022.

Sweden had dominated the preliminary round robin with four wins in four games, including a 10-2 win over Great Britain. The British team prevailed with a 3-1 record to reach the final game. In the final GB broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the second and never looked back for a 5-1 victory. Thomas Flaherty and Tucker Stockman combined for seven strikeouts in seven six-hit innings to lead the way on the mound. Max Manoff scored three of the five runs for Great Britain. Victor Wahlberg scored the lone run for Sweden in the game.

The U18 Baseball National Teams from Poland, Switzerland and Turkey finished with 1-3 records.

Two U18 European Baseball Championship Qualifiers were played this week, one in Sundbyberg, Sweden and the other in Trnava, Slovakia.
