Czechia eliminates France at WBC Qualifier, Germany-South Africa postponed

Rain continued to hinder play at the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Regensburg, Germany on Sunday. In the afternoon Czechia beat France 7-1 to stay alive and eliminate their opponents from the tournament. In the evening the contest between host Germany and South Africa was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up on Monday at 12pm with the winner remaining in the WBCQ to face Czechia on Tuesday.

Czech Republic – France 7-1 (Box score)

The Czech Republic defeated France 7-1 on Sunday afternoon to remain alive in the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Regensburg. Vojtech Mensik led off the game with a solo home run to give Czechia an early jump start. Martin Cervenka came through afterwards with a RBI double and a two-run single. Marek Chlup also had a two-run single, Arnost Dubovy a RBI double in the Czech win. Ivan Ancuna accounted for the lone French run with a RBI single in the eighth. Lucas Ercoli earned the win, while Marc Andre Habeck was charged with the loss.

Germany – South Africa postponed

The teams from Germany and South Africa were about to take the field for the evening game on Sunday, when rain hit Regensburg. As the skies weren’t expected to clear up in due time, the postponement was announced. The game will be made up on Monday at 12pm.
