Czechia and Netherlands prevail on Day two of Women’s European Baseball Championship
After two days of preliminary round action all four teams have one win and one loss in the standings at the Women’s European Baseball Championship in Montpellier. On Thursday the Netherlands defeated Great Britain 12-2, while Czechia stunned host and defending champion 11-9. On Friday the preliminary round ends with the Czech Republic taking on the Netherlands and France playing against Great Britain. The final is scheduled for Saturday.

Great Britain – Netherlands 2-12 (Box score)

The Dutch team scored nine runs combined in the fourth and fifth to turn a close game into a lopsided score in a 12-2 win over Great Britain in the early afternoon game on Thursday. After GB took a 1-0 advantage in the second, the Netherlands answered with three runs in the third and never looked back. Cherise Stravers and Wendy Bladt scored three runs apiece. Anouk Vergunst had three RBI. Darier Minika Malone and Claury Rashel Scatliffe scored the runs for the British squad.

Czech Republic – France 11-9 (Box score)

Czechia scored eight runs in the first two innings of an upset 11-9 win over France in the early evening game in Montpellier. France tried to rally in the end and scored in each of the last four frames. But the Czech Republic added three more runs in the fifth to hold off the rally by the host. Karolina Blazkova, Tereza Stejspalova and Katerina Popelkova scored two runs each. Katerina Markova had three RBI. Leonie Pauthe drove in two for France. Angelique Andre had three hits.
