National Championships: Bonn Capitals win German Baseball Championship 2022

The Bonn Capitals won their second German Baseball Championship in the 2022 season in Germany’s 1. Baseball-Bundesliga. They defeated the Untouchables Paderborn 3-1 (3-0, 10-3, 2-5, 5-2) in the best-of-5 final series to claim the title. Eric Brenk was named MVP in the final series.

Bonn, which reached the German finals for the sixth consecutive season, won the title for the first time in 2018. After dominating the regular season in the northern division with a 21-1 record the Capitals defeated the Mainz Athletics and defending champion Heidenheim Heidekoepfe in the quarterfinals and semifinals on their way into the final series.

Paderborn finished in second place in the north and then went on to beat the Munich-Haar Disciples and southern champion Guggenberger Legionaere Regensburg in five games apiece in the playoffs to join state rival Bonn in the finals.

The 1. Baseball-Bundesliga in Germany is split into two groups in the north and south during the regular season. After a 28-game regular season the top four of each group face off against each other in three playoff round in a best of five format.

The Bonn Capitals played and hosted the 2022 Baseball European Champions Cup in June, winning the bronze medal.
