Women's Softball European Championship 2024: Day 1 Recap

"I would like to declare that the 2024 European Championship is open," announced Gabriel Waage, WBSC Europe Softball Vice President, as he officially opened the XXIV Women's Softball European Championship during the vibrant opening ceremony. The event was a grand festival on the field, featuring all 22 participating teams in front of a sold-out UVV stadium.

France led the day with a strong start, defeating Denmark 9-1 and securing a second victory against Switzerland with a 10-0 score, advancing to Group X.

Slovakia opened their Championship with a commanding 11-0 win over Bulgaria, while Ukraine displayed excellent form with two victories—first against Finland 10-0 and then over Slovakia 10-5. Austria dominated Hungary with a 12-0 score and overcame Sweden 10-0.

Croatia impressed with a 14-0 win against Hungary, and Belgium had an outstanding day, winning 10-1 against Poland and 10-0 against Malta, ensuring their advancement to Group Y.

In the games of the groups X and Y, Greece began their championship journey with a 7-2 win over Israel, while Italy marked their first game with a solid 4-0 victory over Great Britain. The Netherlands displayed strong performance by defeating Spain 10-3, and Czechia concluded the day's action with an 11-3 win against Germany.

As a result of today's games, France and Belgium have won groups A and B, and advanced to Groups X and Y, respectively.

The Netherlands, Czechia, Greece, and Italy started on a high note with their first victories.
