Draci Brno, Guggenberger Legionaere win on Day 5 of BECC

Draci Brno – Eagles Praha 7-1 (Box score)

Draci Brno beat the Eagles Praha 7-1 on Wednesday. Five runs in the second inning decided the outcome early. Brno started the scoring with a RBI single by Martin Cervinka. After an error plated Martin Pernicka, a single by Arnost Dubovy drove in three more runs to give Brno a 5-0 lead. Alex Monsalve made it a seven-run lead with a two-run home run in the fifth. Petr Zyma, who went 4-for-4 in the game, avoided the shutout for the Eagles with a solo shot in the seventh. Jhenderson Hurtado struck out nine batters in six strong innings for the win, allowing just three hits. Tadeas Zavadil got charged with the loss for Praha.

VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Guggenberger Legionaere Regensburg 2-8 (Box score)

In a game, which was delayed and hindered by inclement weather, the Guggenberger Legionaere Regensburg beat the VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe by a score of 8-2 on Wednesday to improve to 4-1 for the BECC season. The Guggenberger Legionaere out-hit the Heidekoepfe 13-3 in the contest. Regensburg scored in seven of the nine innings played. The VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe only were able to tie the game in the second inning thanks to a solo home run by Shawn Larry. But Regensburg regained the lead right away in the third and then extended the advantage run by run afterwards. Daniel Patrice went 3-for-4 for the Guggenberger Legionaere. Alexander Schmidt had two RBI. Antonios Torres Skerrett scored twice. Nick Miceli picked up the win with seven strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings of strong no-hit relief. Jared Mortensen took the loss.

Outlook

The first round at the Baseball European Champions Cup ends next week. On Monday, August 19 the Eagles Praha host Draci Brno in the Czech capital for a game at 18:30. On Wednesday, August 21 the Guggenberger Legionaere Regensburg will take on the VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe at 19:00.
