Cechie Carrots and Denmark Old Stars win the third Softball European Masters Cups
The Cechie Carrots (CZE) triumphed in the Women's Softball European Masters Cup, and the Denmark Old Stars (DEN) prevailed in the Men's Softball European Masters Cup. The Masters Cups, the 40+ European fastpitch competitions, were played in Barcelona, Spain, from October 26 to 29, 2022.
Women's Softball European Masters Cup With a standing of 6-0, the Cechie Carrots (CZE) won the third Women's Softball European Masters Cup. To win the Cup, the Czech squad topped the Dutch Old Stars (NED), 4-9, in the tournament's final.
The gold medal game was balanced: the Dutch team was leading 4-3 up until the fifth inning when the Czech scored four times and secured the win with two more runs in the sixth, taking the final result to 4-9.
The Dutch Old Stars won the silver medal with a record of 4-2. The 2019 and 2021 champions from Italy, Le Zie, took home the bronze medal. In the final standings, the Classic Ladies (AUT/DEN) follow in the fourth spot, the Black Panthers Viladecans (ESP) fifth, and Team Sweden (SWE) sixth.
Men's Softball European Masters Cup For the third time in a row, the Denmark Old Stars (DEN) took part in the final of the Men's Softball European Masters Cup. In the 2022 edition, the Danish squad defeated the United Prague (CZE) to take the gold medal home.
The Denmark Old Stars won a very battled final game against the United Prague, 10-8.
The Danish started strong, scoring once in the first inning, and kept the lead until the next inning when the Czech scored three times to take the result to 3-1. Scoring one run on the fourth and one on the fifth, the Denmark Old Stars came back and tied the game 3-3.
United Prague took the lead again in the bottom of the fourth, scoring once. The one-run lead of the Czech was not enough to discourage the Danish team: a big inning of seven runs scored by the Danish brought the result to 10-4.
Despite one more run on the fifth and three more on the sixth, the Czech could not close the gap: the Denmark Old Stars won the gold medal topping the United Prague, 10-8.
The United Prague (CZE) won the silver medal with a record of 5-2, topping all teams but the Sant Adria BCN North (ESP). The Italian Junior Alpina won the bronze medal winning four games and losing two. The Royal Greys Grizzlies (BEL) follow the final standing in the fourth spot, CBS Sant Adria BCN North (ESP) closed fifth, I-GIGA (ITA) sixth, and Team Sweden (SWE) seventh.
The 2022 ones were the third Softball European Masters Cups. Since 2019, the event has been held in Barcelona, Spain.
In 2022, the minimum age of the Masters Cups was raised from 35 to 40 to better involve the European softball community.
