Germany has won the U-12 European Baseball Championship 2022 in Vienna, Austria. On Saturday evening they defeated Czechia 10-9 after nine dramatic innings. The tying and winning runs were scored on a walk-off double by Felipe Morales Weggemann with two outs in the bottom of the third extra inning. For Germany its their second juveniles title after 2016. Germany and Czechia have qualified for the WBSC U12 Baseball World Cup in 2023.

Gold Medal Game: Germany – Czech Republic 10-9 (Box score)

It was a thrilling back and forth battle between two teams at the same level with several lead changes. Germany eventually prevailed 10-9 against the Czech Republic after nine innings thanks to a walk-off two-run double by Felipe Morales Weggemann with two outs.

Czechia had taken leads of 2-0, 5-2, 8-6 and 9-8 in the game, but also was able to erase a 5-6 deficit in the top of the sixth to force extra innings. Germany had always an answer left and in the end a well-placed fly ball over the Czech left fielder made the difference.

Luis Fermin Giere, Ricardo Wagner Perez and Samuel Gühring scored twice for Germany. Morales Weggemann had the big two-RBI hit in the end. Vaclav Novak homered and drove in four runs for the Czech team. Robin Mika had three hits. Pascal Maibaum, who got the last out with a strikeout with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth to stop the Czech rally, pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief to get the win.

Bronze Medal Game: Italy – Netherlands 5-12 (Box score)

The Netherlands secured third place in the final standings, winning the bronze medal after a 12-5 win over archrival Italy in the game for third place on Saturday afternoon. Italy scored three times in the first and led 3-0 after five frames, when the Dutch tied the game with three runs in the top of the sixth. In the seventh and first extra inning the Netherlands dominated with a whopping nine runs to seal the victory.

Placement Round: Austria – Hungary 17-2 (Box score)

Austria defeated Hungary 17-2 in four quick innings on the second day of the placement round. With the loss Hungary finished in eighth place in the final standings will be relegated to the qualifying round for the 2023 edition of the U-12 European Baseball Championship. Austria scored eight runs in the bottom of the second to take an early and commanding 11-1 lead.

Placement Round: Lithuania – France 3-22 (Box score)

France celebrated a 22-3 win over Lithuania on the second day of the placement round. After a scoreless first for both teams, the French team put six runs on the board in the second, three in the third, again six in the fourth and seven in the fifth innings to run away with the victory. Luca Bernardi Chiba had four hits, including two home runs, a triple and a double, while scoring four runs and driving in seven.
