The Men’s Baseball European Champions Cup 2022 in Bonn, Germany got underway on Tuesday with the first games of the preliminary round. In Group A ASD Parma celebrated a commanding win over Draci Brno and the VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe came back in the ninth inning to beat L&D Amsterdam. In Group B the game between Curacao Neptunus and ASD San Marino got suspended with the score at 5-5 after eight innings due to rain. The evening game between the Bonn Capitals and Arrows Ostrava got postponed.

ASD Parma – Draci Brno 11-1 (Box score)

Defending champion ASD Parma started successful into the Champions Cup with a commanding 11-1 win over Draci Brno in eight ten-run rule shortened innings. Four runs in the first two frames and seven in the last three gave Parma the win. Exequiel Agustin Talevi, Noel Gonzalez and Alberto Mineo combined for seven hits and seven runs. Arnost Dubovy scored the lone run for Brno in the first inning. Emailin Montilla earned the win by pitching five strong innings, allowing just two hits, an unearned run and a walk, while striking out seven. Gillian Ashley Wernet got charged by eight hits, four runs and two base on balls in five innings to take the loss.

L&D Amsterdam – VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe 2-4 (Box score)

In a duel between the reigning champions from the Netherlands and Germany, the VOITH Heidenheim Heidekoepfe did the hosting country of the European Champions Cup proud. They overcame an 0-2 deficit to beat L&D Amsterdam 4-2. After the Pirates had scored two runs in the second and third innings on a RBI single by Tommy Van De Sanden and a solo home run by Denzel Richardson. Heidenheim got on the board on a solo shot by Luke Sommer in the seventh. In the ninth they turned the game around thanks to a sac fly by Simon Liedtke to tie the game and two runs by Philip Schulz and Luca Hoerger on an error at short on Drew Janssen’s groundball.

ASD San Marino - Curacao Neptunus 5-5 (suspended, current stats)

ASD San Marino and Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam were locked into a thrilling back and forth affair until the rain came and suspended the contest after eight innings with a 5-5 score. The date when the game will be resumed will be determined by the Technical Commission later. Neptunus had scored twice in the first. San Marino answered with five combined in the third and the fourth to get in front. Rotterdam then tied the game in the sixth to set up what would have been an exciting finish to the game. This now has to wait.

Bonn Capitals – Arrows Ostrava (postponed, new date: June 8, 15:00)

In the evening the Bonn Capitals would have taken on Arrows Ostrava, but due to rain the game got postponed. It will be made up on Wednesday, June 8 at 3pm.

Due to the rainouts on Tuesday the schedule for Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the European Champions Cup got adjusted. This is the new schedule for day two:

11:00 hrs Field 2: Ostrava vs San Marino
15:00 hrs Field 1: Bonn vs. Ostrava
15:30 hrs Field 2: Heidenheim vs. Parma
19:00 hrs Field 1: Neptunus vs. Bonn
